Mexican Independence
In revolutions, there are always many causes as to which lead to the revolt in the first place. The Mexican independence revolution began in 1810 and ended 1821. Even though the most important trigger was the French taking over Spain, there were other important causes which also contributed to the revolution. The main cause to this revolution was the long term cause. For this war, the long term cause was when the Spaniards were trying to fight for their country in the French Invasion in 1808 and the Mexicans took it as an advantage.
When Spain got weakened because of the French, Mexicans took it as an advantage to strike out their revolt. They knew the Spanish would not attack as strongly due to their occupation in their invasion. If it had not been because of the French Invasion then probably the Mexicans would have not fought at that time. The fact that Spain was suffering from current crisis being held in their country, it extremely facilitated their revolt which eventually led to their independence. They used the french invasion as advertisement for their banners demonstrating how the Spanish were not that strong anymore. They also used it as a way to strike out coming stronger because they felt they were stronger than the Spanish.
Other causes which are also highly important in the revolution, was the inequality in which creoles were living in. They would be overworked and were usually slaves for the spanish colonial power. Mexicans living under these conditions made them want to rebel. Also another factor is the spark cause which was Miguel Hidalgo’s famous speech “El Grito de Dolores” which initiated the Mexican Independence Revolution. When Miguel Hidalgo gave his speech, he persuaded Mexicans to fight for their rights and their freedom, and soon later they were marching towards Mexico City.
The most important cause was when Spain got weakened due to their invasion from the French. The french Invasion in Spain, is the long term cause yet the most important cause because it greatly affected how Mexicans viewed the Spanish. Where before they believed the Spanish were a lot stronger and more powerful than they were, however during the French invasion their perspective changed. Since the Spanish were under invasion, they were too busy to put all eyes and hands on the Mexicans, this was a great advantage to the Mexicans. Now that the Spanish were weakened, mexicans could advertise their revolt and fight back. Eventhough the French revolution was an important cause to the revolution, the inequality the people were living under, and el “Grito de Dolores” were also important factors to cause of the Mexican Independence Revolution.
